Alice Ripoll (Brésil)
The strong and sensual movements of “Passinho,” best described as the confluence of samba and hip-hop, graced a stage in La Cité’s 2016 edition. The dance travelled far from the favelas it came from with the help of Brazilian choreographer Alice Ripoll. This year, she is back on the big stage with the second chapter of the explosive combo, entrusted in the hands of the same ten dancers of the dance troupe Suave.
With Cria (defined as “creating,” but also as “growing, guiding”), the choreographer explores “dancinha,” a derivative of passinho that blends funk with contemporary music while preserving every ounce of its torrid sensuality.
